Bill Newsome

Bill Newsome has had a nearly 30-year career in commercial real estate. Since the mid-1990s, he has managed the operations of Newsome Development and Investments (NDI) and its predecessor, Southwind Capital. Newsome has overseen the company’s growth in student housing, multi-family and healthcare properties to a regional platform, in addition to transactions in selected national markets.

Newsome’s finance and development background has helped shape a boutique development company which has established niches in specific real estate classes. NDI’s student housing experience has allowed it to create strong developments in that sector. Newsome’s expertise has also facilitated institutional transactions with multiple university and hospital clients. His relationships have also resulted in transactions with companies in the energy and finance industries. While NDI has stayed within its primary business lines, the hallmark of the company has been an entrepreneurial approach, making each transaction unique.

Newsome started his development career with Hock Development Corp, based in Durham, NC. He oversaw development of one of the preeminent medical office parks in the Research Triangle area, and handled multiple build-to-suit healthcare relationships, including Duke University.

Prior to starting his development career, Newsome was in corporate banking with InterFirst Bank in Dallas and Wachovia (First Union) in North Carolina. Newsome holds BS and MBA degrees at University of Kansas. He and his wife, Tecile, have four children and reside in Lawrence, KS.

John Almeida

John joined NDI in 2014 and is the lead for the development of all of our new student housing investments.  He heads up all efforts for land acquisition, entitlements, pro forma development and delivery, as well as design and construction.

Prior to joining NDI, John spent 13 years with Turner Construction in various roles ranging from project management, superintendent, preconstruction, and business development. John’s projects at Turner included both public and private experience that included both student housing and multi-family developments along with a heavy focus on healthcare and hospital projects over the last 6 years. His past experience in strategic partnerships and risk management of the design and construction process helps us structure our deals to ensure favorable outcomes.

John received his BS and MS in Engineering from the Missouri University of Science & Technology, is currently completing his MBA at the University of Kansas with a focus on Investments, and resides in Olathe with his wife and daughter.

Casey Meredith

Casey joined Newsome Development and Investments in 2008, and has a variety of experience in finance, acquisition/disposition, development, and asset management.  To date, he has been involved in transactions totaling close to $200M.  On a day-to-day basis, he is engaged in the various financial aspects of managing NDI’s portfolio of assets, as well as supporting new development efforts and expansion in to new markets.

Casey builds and oversees NDI’s financial modeling on the property and portfolio level, and through detailed and collaborative sensitivity analysis, works closely with principals to help structure transactions according to their specific aspects.  He works to achieve financial efficiency throughout the sourcing, market analysis, underwriting, due diligence, capital structuring, closing, on-going operations and exit strategies of each deal.

Prior to joining Newsome Development and Investments, Casey was heavily involved in family-owned business interests in an entrepreneurial role, helping to manage growth in lines of business as well as online presence.  Casey earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Finance from Kansas State University, and resides with his wife in Topeka, KS.

Danielle Little

Danielle joined NDI in 2013. She oversees the property management of the company’s student housing operations in Texas at Texas Christian University and Baylor. The Village East operation at TCU is the second largest off-campus student housing development serving that market.

She also has diverse experience with different types of conventional properties, as well as working with multiple property management operating systems.

Prior to joining NDI, Danielle worked for AMLI Residential, a large apartment REIT, and Lincoln Property Company, the third largest management company in the United States. At Lincoln, Danielle developed her career working for fee-managed properties, specializing in new construction lease-ups and acquisitions.

Danielle graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Art History from Texas Christian University and currently resides in Fort Worth, Texas with her husband and daughter.

Jennifer Chareton

Jennifer joined NDI in 2016. She is the accountant for the Texas student housing property management operations in Waco and Fort Worth.

Jennifer oversees NDI Management’s general ledger accounting functions, including compiling financial statements, payroll, tax correspondence, accounts receivable/payable, and cash flow analysis. She works with the company’s Texas and Kansas CPA firms to provide shareholder assurance and tax compliance.

Prior to joining NDI, Jennifer provided accounting services for multi-family residential and commercial property management, CIP, non-profit, and small business management. Jennifer received a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting from Emporia State University, and resides with her family in Lawrence, KS.


Jenna Mackie

Jenna joined Newsome Development and Investments in 2017.  She is involved in NDI’s administrative and development activities, as well as marketing functions.

Jenna oversees NDI’s administrative operations, including accounts payables, receivables, and payroll. She supports the company’s development activities through administration of construction loan draws, coordination with consultants and assistance with due diligence matters.

NDI provides asset management services to its related commercial real estate portfolio, and Jenna handles coordination on the debt and equity sides, including communication with lenders and management of reserves.

Prior to joining NDI, Jenna spent 10 years in the furniture and design industry in Chicago, IL. Jenna graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in Art History and resides in Lawrence, KS.
